This access statement aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.
Marton Grange is a converted Georgian farmhouse. We offer bed and breakfast and are licensed for the sale of alcohol. We can cater for specific dietary needs but request 48hrs notice.
Entrance to the house is through our conservatory and there are no steps into the building. Doors to the guest lounges and dining rooms will accommodate standard wheelchairs. There are 3 guest bedrooms on the ground floor and 8 guest bedrooms on the first floor. Access to the first floor is by stairs or small passenger lift.
We have private, off-street car-parking for up to 11 vehicles. The main car park is gravelled but there is also a single car parking space on a block paved-surface close to the front entrance of the house where we try to give priority to wheelchair users. We have extensive gardens that may be accessed on foot or by wheelchair users. Motorised scooters may be stored and recharged in our garage. Bicycle storage and drying room facilities are available.
Once you have made a reservation we will e-mail confirmation of the type of room you have booked, occupancy dates and the balance due. A letter of a confirmation can be posted to you if you prefer. The confirmation will contain directions on how to reach us by car or you can use the AA route-planning service at http://www.theaa.com/route-planner/index.jsp by entering your postcode and ours (YO15 1DU) for directions. We also include a car-park plan to advise you of the best way to park to help us optimise space and a list of local places to eat in case you wish to find somewhere for an evening meal before you arrive.
The nearest train stations are at Bridlington (3 miles) and Bempton (1.8 miles). An hourly bus service (no. 510) runs between Bridlington and Flamborough Mondays to Saturdays. The bus stops outside Marton Manor Tea Rooms and we are about 100m down the road towards Flamborough. We are able to provide telephone numbers for Taxis.
Check in is between 15.00 and 19.00. If you are unable to check in before 19.00 we ask that you confirm your expected arrival time with us so we can arrange to be at home to greet you. Drive past the house and into the car park. Please park with your car’s nose/tail pointing towards the house as shown in the plan sent by e-mail. The entrance door is inside the conservatory at the front of the house and it’s always locked. There is a small bell to the right of the door and you must press the button firmly and hold it for a few seconds so we know you are here. Please be patient as it’s a big house and we may be showing other guests to their rooms. Once inside you will be asked to sign our register, given a tour of the downstairs facilities and then shown to your room. Assistance with luggage can be given at all times.
After you have settled into your room you are welcome to take complimentary refreshments in the lounge, garden room, and conservatory or on the terrace. If you have booked as a party, refreshments will be placed in the dining room at an agreed time.
All public rooms and corridors have carpets, level entry and are well lit with a combination of ceiling lights, table lamps and standard lamps. Lighting is reduced at night. The guest lounges and dining rooms are accessed via the entrance lobby. Large print menus can be provided.There is seating for five in the main lounge, six in the garden room and four in the conservatory. Additional chairs are available and we are happy to rearrange furniture to help wheelchair access. There is a public W.C. with wheelchair access on the ground floor. Inside there is a low level WC with hand rails either side and a small hand basin with lever taps.
All guest rooms have level entry except room 5 which has two small steps down into the room. All en-suite bathrooms have walk in showers, some with a small step into the enclosure. Non-slip mats can be provided and we have small grab rails that may be placed in the shower if required. All taps are lever-mixer taps, some showers are controlled by pushing a button and others by turning a dial. One ground floor room (room 9) has permanent grab bars in the en-suite and it easily accommodate a shower seat or stool (provided on request) however some mobility is required because the location of the en-suite door restricts standard wheelchair access.
The garden is available for use by guests. It consists of: formal lawn areas with flower beds, a small orchard, a woodland area, a large informal lawn suitable for exercising dogs, kite-flying and ball games (care needed because there is some unevenness due to rabbits!) and an unfenced pond. Certain features make it unsuitable for young children, those with visual impairments or mobility problems; however there is a south-facing terrace at the front of the house that has level access from the conservatory.
Fire protection - A hard-wired fire detection system is provided throughout the Guest House with smoke detectors in each guest room and public areas and break glass points along corridors. Fire extinguishers are provided on all levels of the house. An emergency light system will function if there is a power failure. Each guest room has wall-mounted instructions detailing what to do in the event of a fire alarm.
Complimentary high speed WiFi – there is complimentary WiFi access throughout most of the building and instructions for logging on are found in our guest information folders.
Dogs - Asssitance dogs and pet dogs are welcome in room10 by prior arrangement only. We accept a maximum of two dogs in the room and there is an additional fee. Pets are allowed in the guest bedroom and conservatory only. Assistance dogs may accompany their owners.
Medical problems – Wolds View Primary Care Centre at Bridlington Hospital will treat minor injuries and illnesses. For serious conditions the closest A&E Department is at Scarborough Hospital.
